Our Beliefs

Our mission is to encourage non-Christians to become Christians and Christians to become more like Christ.  We do this through study of God’s word, prayer, worship, fellowship, evangelism, discipleship and service.

Our Worship Style

Worship services at First Christian Church Athens consist of prayers, including the Lord's prayer, both instrumental and choral music, the Lord's Supper, responsive readings, Scripture readings, and sermons. Each Sunday the Lord's Supper is celebrated at First Christian Church Athens and is viewed as the central act of worship. The Lord's Supper affirms our continual dependence, week by week, upon God's mercy. In recognition of the oneness of God's convenant, the invitation to share the Lord's Supper is recognized as an invitation of Christ to all present who feel led to partake. The Lord's Supper is a time to remember and celebrate the dead and resurrection of Christ. The hope is that the Lord's Supper will prove a time of self-examination and confession of sin and a renewal of personal commitment to Christ.

Membership

First Christian Church Athens maintains that joining the church is uncomplicated and based on Romans 10:8-13.  To join the church one only needs to “confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead.”  We recognize that this is only the beginning of an understanding of the meaning and grandeur of Christ’s life for the whole of humanity.  In and through the community of the church, each Christian is called to live out the implications of the good confession for the sake of the world and to the glory of God.
